IMPLEMENT SUSTAINABLE PROGRAMMES

We believe that sustainable solutions to the water needs of the rural poor require community-based approaches that involve active participation of the communities as well as support from local governments. 6 core components inform our approach to each of the programmes we design, develop and implement.

According to the World Health Organisation, improved water supply alone reduces diarrhoea morbidity by 21%, while the simple act of washing hands at critical times can reduce the number of diarrhoeal cases by up to 35%.

Current Programmes

Each programme has been designed to enable us to efficiently deliver sustainable clean water access utilising minimal resources. Communities have to demonstrate specific fundamental attributes that meet the key requirements of the individual programme, before we proceed to adapt elements of the programme for a locally appropriate solution.

COMMUNITY WATER ENTERPRISE

The Community Water Enterprise (CWE) programme applies the principles of a social enterprise model delivered by training selected water entrepreneurs and local governments. The CWE programme is delivered in locations where piped water systems are not feasible and where readily available surface waters are biologically contaminated.

VILLAGE WATER MANAGEMENT

The Village Water Management (VWM) programme mentors a regionally or nationally available platform of grassroots leaders residing within the community, enabling them to implement clean water projects for the sustenance and development of their communities. The VWM programme is delivered in locations where available water sources are relatively clean but significantly distant from households.

An Exploratory Mindset

We understand that development issues are complex in nature, with multiple interconnected and interdependent elements and dimensions. As feedback processes shape how change happens, we place emphasis on continuous design, measurement and valuation of data to evolve measures to address how we can enable clean water access and sanitation for the rural poor. We believe that open collaboration and data-driven investigation can generate insights that help guide our exploration of new technologies and methodologies to improve existing solutions and implement new ones.
